10/22/2001 So I got my computer back today. I had an additional 75 gig hard drive installed and sent the bad drive off for repairs. The plan was to install the repaired drive in addition to the new drive and to have the new one backed up by the repaired so if in the future a drive goes bad I have an exact duplicate. Or something like that. So the new hard drive was installed in addition to an additional 256 megs of memory. I was all set to come home, set it all back up and call my ISP to get the DSL that's been installed, just not working, working finally. All was going according to plan. Set everything back up, had all the discs to reinstall programs, etc. Boot up screen number one: all fine. Next screen: great! Next screen... next screen... er... next... black. Nothing. Black screen. It sounds like it's booted up. The monitor shows it has power. Instead of the blue screen of death I have black screen of nothing. On a better note I just got the new Tivo upgrade from 2.0 to 2.5. Now if I could just get my computer back and DSL working...
Thanks, Edmond. I took the computer into the shop and, of course, it worked just fine. I took it home and set it back up and, of course, it works just fine. So now all I need to do is get Sonic.net to get my DSL up and running and I'm back to normal. Or as normal as things have been in a while...

The OS settings may be set to pump a refresh rate out of your video card that your monitor can't handle.

I'm really not sure of the appeal of Mark Bakalor's site, because frankly I suspect there is none, but hell, I check it at least thrice daily, and you should too! - dlevy "Your website is beautifully demented. The moving head thing in the top left just does it. I've been staring at it for the past minute and still find it amusing. You're an inspiration to us all." - Gord
